Meet Darden


Darden has spent her career advocating on behalf of  St. Petersburg and its people. By staying true to her beliefs and her constituents, she’s built an impressive track record of championing progressive causes, successful initiatives, and responsible governance. A trailblazer in many ways, Darden was the first openly gay candidate to run for elected office in Pinellas County in 2005. Her public service record is a strong testament to her dedicated, thoughtful, and persistent organizing on critical issues.


Her professional life includes more than 15 years of experience working with local, state, and national organizations in communications. She has worked on campaign finance reform initiatives; promoting access to affordable, quality healthcare; defending voting rights against  unfair voter suppression laws; protecting clean water; and promoting clean energy. Darden was the driving force behind universal curbside recycling, sponsor of the Wage Theft Prevention ordinance, and founder of the Council Committee on the Environment –the City’s most ambitious and comprehensive approach to measurable environmental progress.


Darden’s many accolades include receiving the Sierra Club Black Bear Award and St. Petersburg Preservation’s Presidents’ Award. She was also recognized as an Outstanding Green Elected Official by United States Green Building Council Florida Gulf Coast Region and by Creative Loafing as Tampa Bay’s Best City Councilmember.
